VIVA EMPLOYMENT LA

Provides training and individualized job placement opportunities to people with disabilities who speak Spanish or limited English.

There are times when disabilities can seem overwhelming. Escobar came to WCIL seeking work. Young, but no longer physically strong, Escobar had faced multiple mental and physical debilitating barriers, such as head injury, extensive surgeries, depression, neuromuscular disability, a learning disability, homelessness and limited English comprehension. Over the course of the Viva program, Escobar was able to learn extensive job seeking skills which included job interviewing and employer networking. He was really persistent and utilized the WCIL job developer's time and effort to its full extent. Escobar worked hard and soon began to communicate well with others in order to obtain the necessary information that was needed to find a job. In September of 2006, Escobar was offered a position with the Los Angeles Homeless Services Coalition. Happy to be working, and sharing his skills with others, Escobar is a success story.
